CHARLOTTE (AP) — Investigators say a 22-year-old man appears to have been shot to death outside a Charlotte nightclub.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said Alejandro Alvarez was found dead around 2 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of Skandalo’s, a nightclub in the eastern part of the city.
Investigators think Alvarez was shot after a fight in the parking lot between several people.

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — A North Carolina woman was struck and killed by a car as she tried to cross a highway in southern New Jersey.
Toms River police say the 50-year-old Bladenboro resident, whose name was not released, was struck on Route 37 East around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the woman had been staying at a nearby motel, but further details were not disclosed.

No charges have been filed in the accident, but an investigation is ongoing.
ASHEVILLE (AP) — Authorities say an Asheville midwife facing a murder charge in the death of an infant she was helping deliver didn’t arrive to assist in the birth until two days after the mother’s water broke.
Court records obtained by The Asheville Citizen-Times show that police think 44-year-old Tina Bailey also told the mother to lie about when her water broke when she finally went to the hospital last summer.
Police say a woman who helped Bailey with the birth said the midwife was a bully and only did things like check the fetal heart rate when the parents asked.
Authorities say the baby died in part after inhaling fluid from a bowel movement that often happens when a fetus is under medical distress.
Bailey refused to talk to the newspaper.

Police say they found the man’s garage destroyed and a boat in the middle of the driveway of his south Charlotte home around 7 p.m. Saturday.
Investigators say the homeowner told them the boat belonged to the contractor who he hired to fix his garage earlier this year. The homeowner says the repairs weren’t done right and he wanted his money back.
Neighbors say they saw a man hauling the boat driving recklessly around the neighborhood before backing the boat into the closed garage.

Investigators say the man told his wife he was going for a swim Saturday morning, and his body was found near a pier about 500 feet away from where he entered he ocean several hours later.
Authorities say rip currents were heavy in the area Saturday, and they suspect the man got caught in one.
