CONOVER – Anthony & quot;Tony & quot; Joseph Paterno, age 82, of Third Avenue N.E., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt;Born Nov. 20, 1924, in New York County, Mr. Paterno was the son of the late Anthony Paterno Sr. and the late Alice Shaddick Paterno. He retired from the Burke County Sheriff Department as Chief Deputy. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt;In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son Ronald A. Paterno and sister Marie Allessi. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt;He is survived by son Alan M. Paterno and wife Jennie Hess Paterno of Salisbury; daughter Patricia Kaltenbach and husband R.J. of Illinois; daughter-in-law Susan Paterno of Morganton; sister Dorothy Hosford of Florida; grandsons Robbie Paterno and Tony Paterno, both of Morganton; granddaughters Sonja Corbitt of Tennessee and Leslie Havens of Statesville; four great-grandchildren; and fiancee Judith Carolyn Sigmon of Newton. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt;Service: A brief memorial service will be held Friday at 8 p.m. at Burke Mortuary in Newton. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt;Visitation: The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Burke Mortuary in Newton. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt;Memorials: The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Palliative Care and Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658. & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt;Burke Mortuary in Newton is serving the Paterno family.
