Letter: Key to success is accountability

As a retired school administrator. I shudder each time I read about poor school ratings, and teachers’ and school committees’ answers to the problem. They always come up with the standard answer of the last 30 years: “We need more money for teachers’ salaries, new curriculum etc.”

We have been spending more money each year and getting less and less for our money. Please, please, please, people, money has not been the answer and isn’t the answer now. The key word for success is accountability, not money. Stop sending good money after bad money.

Make our teachers and scool administrators more accountable. Teaching is a noble profession and requires diligence, compassion and a strong set of standards, not steady increases in salary without results.
