KANNAPOLIS – Kathleen Pethel Mitchell, 89, of 1302 W. “A” St., went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord.

Born July 25, 1917, in Rowan County, Mrs. Mitchell was a daughter of the late Brown C. Pethel and Maggie Pethel. A lifetime resident of the area, she was employed with Cannon Mills Co. for 50 years and also worked with Kannapolis City School for 12 years until her retirement.

A member of Lakewood Baptist Church in Kannapolis, she had a special love for her church and her pastor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin A. Mitchell, on Feb. 10, 2003.

Surviving are daughter Joyce M. Gulledge of Kannapolis; grandchildren Larry F. Deaton Jr. and wife Angela of Calhoun, Ga., Rodney M. Gulledge and wife Tammy of Rockwell and Cynthia Pittmon and husband Dell of Concord; great-grandchildren Steve Swann and wife Bethany, Kevin Pittmon and Andy Pittmon, all of Kannapolis, and Nikki Deaton and Julie Deaton of Calhoun, Ga.; and sisters Gertie McDaniel and Gladys Masters of Kannapolis.

Service: 11 a.m. Friday at Whitley’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Howard officiating. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 5-7 tonight at Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home.
