Kathleen Pethel Mitchell, 89, 1302 W. A St., died Dec. 27, 2006, at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born July 25, 1917, in Rowan County, Mrs. Mitchell was a daughter of the late Brown C. and Maggie Pethel.

She worked for Cannon Mills Co. for 50 years and then for the Kannapolis City Schools for 12 years, until her retirement.

She was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church.

Her husband, Austin A. Mitchell, died Feb. 10, 2003.

Survivors include daughter Joyce M. Gulledge, Kannapolis; sisters Gertie McDaniel and Gladys Masters, both of Kannapolis; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A service was held Friday (Dec. 29, 2006) at Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Robert Howard. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
