CHINA GROVE – Maxine Walters Deal, 82, of 240 Basil Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at her home.

Born June 4, 1924, in Rowan County, Mrs. Deal was the daughter of the late Robert and Viola Bradshaw Walters. She was a graduate of China Grove High School and a member of the Woodman of the World.

Mrs. Deal was a member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School in the children’s department, did volunteer secretarial work and was a member of the Golden Agers group. A homemaker, she also was an assistant at China Grove Elementary School.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, B. Bernard Deal, on July 4, 1989.

Survivors include sons Ronnie Deal and wife Julie and Donnie Deal and wife Kathy, all of China Grove; close companion Bittle Deal of China Grove; brother Oscar Walters of Virginia; grandchildren Kevin Ray, Gregory Alan, April Leann, Stacy Reid and Chase Alexander Deal; and great-grandchildren Cage and Alanna Deal.

Service: 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Zion United Church of Christ with the Rev. William Campbell officiating. Entombment will follow in West Lawn Mausoleum.

Visitation: 1:30-3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Zion United Church of Christ.
