Helen Smith Arnette, 85, Caremoor Retirement Center, formerly of 8510 Cloverfield Drive, died Friday (Jan. 26, 2007) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Jan. 4, 1922, in Atlantic City, N.J., Mrs. Arnette was a daughter of the late Earl and Mildred Squires Smith.

She and her late husband owned and operated Aberdeen Lounge. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Hampton, Va.

Her husband, Alton Arnette, died in 1997.

Survivors include sons Paul Earl and John C. Machner, both of Kannapolis; daughter Lisa Bravo, Newport News, Va.; stepsons Chris and Dale Arnette, both of Kannapolis, and Tommy Arnette, Mount Pleasant; stepdaughters Joanna Washington, Rockwell, and Hilda Boswell, Kannapolis; 18 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

A service was held Sunday (Jan. 28, 2007) at Lady’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Mary Arnette. A graveside services was held Monday at Carolina Baptist Church cemetery, Green Seas, S.C.
