Vertie A. Lipe

LANDIS — Vertie Alexander Lipe, 90, Landis, died Jan. 31, 2007,at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, of pneumonia.
Born Jan. 19, 1916, in Rowan County, Mrs. Lipe was a daughter of the late John Ulysses and Fannie Kirk Alexander.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for more than 70 years. She sang in the choir and had served as superintendent of the children’s Sunday school and president of Women of the Church, Nell Lipe Circle and Fellowship Club. She served on the Music and Worship and Long Range Planning committees.
In March 2006, her congregation voted unanimously to name the new parish ministry building in her honor.
Her husband, Phil Emmanuel Lipe, and son Phil Emmanuel Lipe II preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter Betty Lipe Davis, Avon, Conn.; son Joseph Alexander Lipe, Charlotte; sisters Della Alexander and Margaret Alexander Hoke, both of Salisbury; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Saturday (Feb. 3, 2007) at Trinity Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Jarrod Lanning. Burial, private.
Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home was in charge.
