On May 31, Sarah Cleary will retire as the church secretary for First Presbyterian Church after 30 years of service.
The church will recognize Cleary during the 10:55 a.m. worship service this Sunday. A reception for Sarah and her husband, Vern Cleary, will follow in the fellowship hall.
Cleary began working at First Presbyterian on May 16, 1977. The church was in the middle of transition, with a year-old sanctuary and office complex and an out-of-town interim pastor, Dr. James “Mickey” Efird. Since then, she has worked with two pastors and another interim pastor, produced about 1,500 bulletins, written countless checks and answered innumerable phone calls.”First Presbyterian rejoices with Sarah Cleary as she moves into this new stage of her life as we remember … gratefully her long and faithful career.” church leaders said.
