Defending champ wins in Rowan Amateur

Defending champion Keith Dorsett and medalist Stan Honeycutt won matc hes in the opening round of the 30th Horace Billings Rowan Amateur Championship at Corbin Hills on Friday.
Dorsett posted four birdies in a row as he took a 2 and 1 win over Chris Sifford.
Honeycutt used three late birdies on his way to a 3 and 2 decision over Jeff Quan.
Dorsett will face Joe Harrell, who edged Dwayne McIntyre, in the second round which has an 8:06 a.m. starting time today.
Also at 8:06 a.m., Honeycutt will meet Gary Miller, who owns the tourney record for most wins.
Miller, who has won the tournament six times, turned back Robert Jordan 3 and 2.
The longest match of the round saw Max Galang edged by his father Alfred Galang on the 23rd hole.
Thirty-two players earned spots in the tourney. Sixteen were eliminatedFriday. Two rounds wlll be played today.
The suvivors will decide the championship in two rounds Sunday, starting at 8:06 a.m. The title match is at 1 p.m.
