Salisbury sweep in CCC track

Salisbury girls track team won the CCC championship for the fourth consecutive year in a row.
Salisbury scored 191 points, while second-place North Rowan had 158.
Salisbury’s Alisha Bradshaw placed first in the shot put and discus. Katherine Shields won the 1600 and 3200.
Melanie Ramos placed first in the 100 meters, was second in the 100 hurdles and placed third in the long jump.
Emily Shields won the 800.
Salisbury won the 4×800 relay and 4×100 relay and took second in the 4×400 relay.
Shi-Heria Shipp was second in the 200 and the high jump.
Brooke Johnson was second in the 800 and 1600 and third in the 3200.
Dasia McGill was second in the triple jump.
* North Rowan’s Teaunna Cuthbertson won four events ó the long jump, triple jump, 300 hurdles and 100 hurdles.
North’s Yasarian Bush won the 200 and placed second in the long jump and 100 meters.
Dirika Mitchell was second in the shot put.
North’s Tatiana Banks and Corbin Bennett ran 1-2 in the 400.
* Salisbury won the boys meet with 138 points. North Rowan was second with 106.
A.J. Ford won the 100 and 200 sprints and the shot put for the Hornets. Nick Summers took the 800, 1600 and 3200 runs.
North winners included Garland Archie in the discus, Haussen Walser in the pole vault and Samuel Starks in the 110 and 300 hurdles. North won the 4×100 relay.
There will be much more on the CCC track meet, with times, marks and top finishers in Saturday’s Scoreboard.
The 2A Midwest Regional will be held at Monroe May 16.
– Prep soccer
Salisbury thrashed Providence Grove on Thursday 8-0 to finish the regular season 12-5-1 overall and 11-3 in the CCC.
Scoring twice for the Hornets were Sierra Davis and Katherine Heidt. Alee Johnson, Marlee Murphy, Madison Kennedy and Karen Presnell all had one goal.
Heidt had two assists. Also recording assists were Allison Lee, Jenna Bryan, Mally Fisher, Murphy, Davis and Kennedy.
The win forces a play-in game tonight against Ledford at Central Davidson to determine the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. Salisbury and Ledford have identical records and both lost to champion West Davidson twice.
Salisbury was originally scheduled to play West Rowan tonight. That match is now off.
* West Rowan lost at Mooresville 1-0 on Thursday. The Blue Devils scored a goal midway through the second half.
West (10-8) finished fifth in the league.
Strong performances were turned in by Allison Parker on defense, Abbie Wilson and Allison Baucom in midfield, and senior Autumn Foster in goal.
– Prep tennis
West Rowan lost in the first round of the 3A dual team playoffs Thursday, falling to Kings Mountain 6-3.
West’s winners in singles were No. 2 Joel Brittain 6-3, 6-4, and No. 5 Chris Holmes 6-1, 6-0.
The No. 2 doubles team of Sam Daniel and Ricky Meek won 8-6.
The Falcons finished 12-4 and send Jesse Myers to today’s regional at T.C. Roberson.

Terris Sifford (West Rowan) scored 29 points in his most recent action in Italy.
– Top athletes
Morganton Freedom’s Ali Ford and East Burke’s Tyler Shatley were named NCHSAA Athletes of the Year.
– Summer Smash
The Summer Smash adult coed volleyball league starts at Hurley YMCA May 18.
The team rate is $135 for teams or $35 for individuals who will be placed on a team.
