Luke Miller, 11, killed his first turkey on Saturday, April 4, while hunting with his father, Tim.
It was an afternoon hunt. They set up and started calling the birds. Within 30 minutes they spotted a group of birds over 300 yards away. As they continued to call, the gobblers started talking back, getting closer and closer to where they had setup. There were two big toms about 17 turkeys all together.
Luke told his Dad, “Here come the calvary.”
Luke was praying they would come in close enough for him to get a good shot. The toms must have strutted six times or more. When they finally reach the decoys Luke made a perfect 12 yard shot. Taking a 22-pound gobbler with a 10-inch beard and 1-inch spurs.
