Smith Eagle Scout
Dillon Smith of BSA Troop 505, Mocksville, completed his Eagle required public service project June 27, 2009. Dillon chose to erect a flagpole at the Davie County Law Enforcement Center where a red Range Flag will be flown when the firing range is in use.
Dillon would like to thank Jimmy Shoaf of Shoaf’s Machine & Tools for donating the flagpole and the Davie County Law Enforcement Association for donating the landscaping funds.
Howard Graduation
Amanda Lynn Howard of San Diego, California, formerly of Spencer, graduated June 7, 2009, from the National University of San Diego in San Diego, California, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
A 1998 graduate of Cherokee High School, Marlton, New Jersey, Mandi is the daughter of Patti and Harry Meeker of Marlton and the late Jimmy Wayne Howard of Salisbury and the granddaughter of Patricia Nelson of Salisbury and the late Richard Nelson.
Currin Graduation
Ashley Black Currin of Raleigh, formerly of Salisbury, graduated from Campbell Universityís Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law May 8, 2009, with a Juris Doctorate.
Ashley served as Student Clerk for Judge John Tyson, interned for three years at U.S. Attorneyís Office in Raleigh, was treasurer of the Student Bar Association and a member of the Law Fraternity Delta Theta Phi and Campbell Women-in-Law.
A 2002 honor graduate of West Rowan High School, she graduated from North Carolina State University in 2006 as Valedictorian and the highest ranking senior with a Bachelor of Science in Finance with a Minor in Spanish.
Ashley is married to Robert Madison Currin, a native of Raleigh and also a 2006 graduate of North Carolina State University. Madison is employed with Connexion Technologies. Beginning in August, Ashley will be an Associate with the firm of Lewis & Roberts in Raleigh.
Ashley is the daughter of Jeff and Goldie Chapman and Dan and Jo Black of Salisbury and granddaughter of Robert and Dollie Shaver and Rev. James and Mary Black of Salisbury.
Miller Graduation
Ashley Michelle Miller of Salisbury graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro May 15, 2009, with a Bachelor of Science in Specialized Education with a minor in Spanish. She is a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an international honor society for educators.
Currently employed by Triad Coordinated Services, Ashley is the daughter of David and Brenda Miller of Salisbury and the granddaughter of Frank and Rachel Miller and Barbara and the late Bill Hardister.
Hillard – Cantu Engagement
Michele Hillard of Salisbury is pleased to announce the engagement of her daughter, Elizabeth Claire Hillard, to Cpl. Eric Manuel Cantu of Poteet, Texas.
Claire is also the daughter of the late Richard Hillard. A 2006 graduate of North Hills Christian School, she is a senior at Catawba College.
The future groom is the son of Dan and Lydia Edwards of Poteet, Texas. A 2004 graduate of Poteet High School, Eric is a member of the United States Marine Corps.
The wedding is Nov. 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Eller – McDougal Engagement
Garry and Claudine Eller of Salisbury are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Melissa Dawn Eller, to Travis Zales McDougal of Greenville.
The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Bobby and the late Lettie Eller of Salisbury and Joann Greer of Lenoir. A 2002 graduate of East Rowan High School, Melissa graduated magna cum laude from East Carolina Univer?sity in 2008. She is employed by Home Instead Senior Care.
The future groom is the son of Cynthia McDougal of Greenville and James and Donna McDougal of More?head City. He is the grandson of James and Virginia Whitt of Virginia Beach, Va., and Judy McDougal of Port St. Lucie, Fla. A 1998 graduate of West Carteret High School and 2001 graduate of Pitt Community College, Travis is employed by the Davie County Sheriffís Office.
The wedding is Nov. 8 at Castle McCulloch in Jamestown.
Corriher – Benfield Engagement
George and Martha Corriher of China Grove are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Cassidy Cress Corriher, to Matthew Reid Benfield of Salisbury.
The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Duard and Betty Cress of Salisbury and Evelyn Corriher of Kannapolis. A 2002 graduate of South Rowan High School and 2007 graduate of Cabarrus College of Health Sciences, Cassidy is employed in the Emergency Care Center at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord.
The future groom is the son of Michael and Sandra Benfield of Salisbury and the grandson of Bernice Benfield of Salisbury and Jimmy and Shirley Miller of Landis. A 2000 graduate of South Rowan High School and 2003 graduate of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, Matthew is employed at Duke Energyís McGuire Nuclear Station.
The wedding is Oct. 3 at First Reformed Church in Landis.
Yuhas – Faggart Wedding
KANNAPOLIS ó Cheryl Parker Yuhas and Michael Hall Faggart of Salisbury were united in marriage June 20, 2009, at The Lakes. The Rev. Lori Heffner officiated the 11:30 a.m. ceremony, which was followed by a reception.
The bride was escorted by her father. She was attended by her sisters, Jamie Parker as maid of honor and Angela Madison as matron of honor. Kristin Jones was bridesmaid, and the brideís daughter, Tamera Parker, was junior bridesmaid.
Reggie Faggart stood as his sonís best man. Groomsmen were Michael Horn, stepfather of the groom, and Rick Sanchez.
Flower girls were Meghan Madison and Zoe Madison, and ring bearer was Zachary Yuhas, son of the bride. Sister of the groom Rebecca Sanchez was guest registrar.
The bride is the daughter of Allan Hattaway of Salisbury and Elizabeth Parker and the late Jerry Parker of Salisbury. She is the granddaughter of Harold and Dot Hattaway, Ida Powles, Helen Parker and the late John and Edith Mesimore, all of Salisbury. A 1993 graduate of East Rowan High School, Cheryl is employed by Sprint PCS.
The groom is the son of Debbie and Michael Horn of China Grove and Reggie and Lisa Faggart of Landis. He is the grandson of Walter and Margaret Gullett of Landis and Carolyn and the late Marvin Faggart of China Grove. A 1996 graduate of South Rowan High School, Michael is employed by Food Lion.
The couple are making their home in Salisbury.
Washington 25th Anniversary
Rev. Samuel A. Washington and Min. Laura A. Washington, D.Min., celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary June 30, 2009, with a cruise to the Bahamas. The couple was married by the late Rev. G. George Abnathya at First Baptist Church, Linden, N.J., on June 30, 1984. Solid Rock Church of God, Salisbury, where Rev. Washington pastors, hosted a surprise dinner to honor the couple July 5, 2009. Currently an educator in the Rowan-Salisbury School System, Rev. Washington also worked in finance for over 20 years at several corporations as well as CEO of his own business. Dr. Laura Washington is Director of Christian Education at Solid Rock. The Washingtons have two daughters Andrea Spears (Chris) and Alanna Foster and four grandchildren, Breanna, Nataisa, Zion and Zaire.
Skelton 50th Anniversary
Frank Skelton and Jean Skelton of Salisbury celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 11, 2009, with a renewal of their vows at Knox Chapel United Methodist Church. A reception followed at The Wrenn House.
The couple eloped to Hartwell, Ga., on July 11, 1959, and were married by a Justice of the Peace. Frank retired from Cone Mills Corp. after 40 years of service, and Jean is a housewife.
Their children are David Skelton and wife Lenore of Simpsonville, S.C., Tammy Skelton of Simpsonville, Tony Skelton of Salisbury and Aimee Skelton Rabon and husband Shane of Salisbury. Their grandchildren are Elizabeth Ramsey of Simpsonville and Triston Michael Rabon of Salisbury. They are expecting their first great-grandchild in October.
