Rowan Legion wins 13-0 against Conyers

SUMTER, S.C. ó Rowan County’s American Legion baseball team won 13-0 against Conyers (Ga.) in seven innings on Sunday afternoon at the Southeast Regional.
Nick Smith pitched six shutout innings, and Trey Holmes’ three-run homer in the second inning gave Rowan a 5-0 lead.
Rowan (35-8) will compete on the final day of the regional. It needs two wins Monday to qualify for the World Series in Fargo, N.D.
Rowan will play against either Sumter (S.C.) or Tuscaloosa (Ala.) at 4 p.m. in Monday’s opener. Rowan coach Jim Gantt said Corbin Shive will start on the mound.
