Staff report
A mother and son escaped injury in a wreck on Interstate 85 on Tuesday.
The single-vehicle accident occurred around 1 p.m. in the northbound lane of I-85 near its intersection with Lane Street in Kannapolis.
Mount Mitchell Fire Chief Robert Earnhardt said a woman lost control of her car. The car overturned and caught fire.
Mount Mitchell Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire.
Earnhardt said the roadway was quickly reopened to northbound traffic.
He confirmed the mother and son, who he believed to be about 11 years old, didn’t have any injuries.
“They refused EMS care,” Earnhardt said.
The N.C. Highway Patrol investigated. A Highway Patrol report was not available Tuesday evening.
Rowan County Emergency Services and Rowan County Rescue Squad also responded. No other information was available late Tuesday.
