Fallen hero honored
Lance Cpl. Nathan Elrod, who was killed in Iraq on Oct. 21, 2006, was recognized with the Fallen Heroes Award Wednesday at the Rockwell AMVETS Post 845.
Receiving the award were his parents, Tim and Teresa Elrod of Salisbury, along with other family members.
The family received a plaque, flag and letter from Gov. Mike Easley. The award was presented by Randy Greenwood, a member of the State Division of Veterans Affairs. The program began last fall.
In April, Elrod’s family received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal on his behalf.
