Hill’s Bassmasters held its 13th annual Youth Day on Saturday for the benefit of Arc/Rowan, a United Way agency that serves developmentally disabled people.
The fishing club got assistance from the East Rowan High School Student Council.
Because of bad weather, Bassmasters already had rescheduled Youth Day twice, and rain continued through midnight Friday.
“The clients from Arc/Rowan braved the wind, the chilly air and the mud from the rain for a fun day of fishing and a cookout,” club member Jim Mullen wrote.
Twenty-one Arc/Rowan clients participated, and the Bassmasters club assigned a fishing buddy to each.
Hill’s Minnow Farm Store and owner Terry Hill provided tackle, bait and the fishing pond behind the store.
Client winners were Andrew Stirewalt, most fish caught (by number); Lauren Bolton, big fish; and Dale Galey, most fish caught (by weight).
The fishing club and Arc/Rowan presented a Community Service Award to the East Rowan Student Council. Faculty Advisor Charlotte Cherry and Student Council Co-President Jaimie Mullen accepted.
