Behmer named new utilities director

Jim Behmer has been named the new director of Salisbury-Rowan Utilities, which provides water and sewer services for Salisbury and other areas in Rowan County.
City Manager David Treme made the announcement at Tuesday’s meeting of the Salisbury City Council.
Behmer had been serving as interim director after the resignation of Matt Bernhardt, who is now director of public works and utilities for the city of Gastonia.
Behmer, who has worked for the city for more than eight years, holds a civil engineering degree from the University of Virginia and is a licensed professional engineer in North Carolina.
Behmer is a graduate of Leadership Rowan. He and his wife, Kritsana, have a daughter, Porntip.
