China Grove man charged with drug trafficking

A China Grove man has been charged with drug trafficking after authorities say they served a search warrant at his Dillon Street home and found a number of painkillers, marijuana, weapons and cash.
Ronnie Thomas Johnson, 49, of 165 Dillon St., was charged with the following:
– Trafficking opium by possession,
– Possession with intent to sell marijuana,
– Possession with intent to sell schedule II controlled substance,
– Possession with intent to sell schedule III controlled substance,
– Possession with intent to sell schedule IV controlled substance,
– Maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances,
– Possession of a firearm by a felon and
– Possession of drug paraphernalia.
Investigators with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office served the warrant at the China Grove home Tuesday. During the search officials say they seized two pounds of marijuana, 86 hydrocodone tablets, 10 oxycodone tablets, and 80 diazepam tablets. Investigators also seized a pistol, a shotgun and $2,097.
Diazepam, like Valium, is used as a sedative and to relieve anxiety. Both hydrocodone and oxycodone are painkillers.
Johnson remained in the Rowan County Detention Center under $250,000 secured bond Wednesday.
