CLEVELAND ó Police here are looking for two men who robbed the Subway Restaurant at 11735 Statesville Blvd. Sunday night.
Chief David Allen said the descriptions provided by restaurant employees matched the descriptions of two armed robbers at the nearby Dollar General Store last month ó two black men wearing ski masks and hooded sweatshirts.
Undisclosed amounts of money were taken in both robberies.
Allen said the armed robbery at the Subway happened at 10:26 p.m., “right before closing time,” when there weren’t any customers inside.
One of the robbers threatened the two employees with a handgun.
The masked men ran from the restaurant with the money, and Allen said there was no known direction of travel.
In the earlier armed robbery, which happened at 8:45 p.m. on a Saturday night, police said the two robbers ran from the store and were possibly driven from the scene in a red or burgundy Dodge Stratus.
The car was last seen traveling west on Amity Hill Road toward Iredell County.
Allen said Cleveland police officers have been in communication with other local businesses to try to prevent further armed robberies.
Business owners and employees should be aware of their surroundings at all times, the police chief said, and contact police about any suspicious activity.
Anyone with information on either armed robbery is asked to contact the Cleveland Police Department at 704-278-1900.
Allen said police have not yet received any leads.
The last robbery in the town occurred in 2005, and arrests were made in that case.
