Staff report
Rowan County commissioners will be going light for the final business session of the current board.
The Rowan County Board of Commissioners, which in past years has tackled dozens of items in its post-election session, has less than a half-dozen items set for Monday night.
A major item which had been scheduled for the Monday night session is missing.
Commissioners were expected to hear from a Charlotte architectural firm on recommendations for turning the former Winn-Dixie building on Jake Alexander Boulevard into a central administrative office for the Rowan -Salisbury Schools.
County Manager Gary Page recently selected S.C. Hondros & Associates to do the evaluation.
The company will look at how to put the 150-plus school employees in the 42,600-square-foot building and whether additional space will be needed.
Arnold Chamberlain, current chairman of the board, said Friday that he doesn’t believe the report is complete.
And Chamberlain said that it’s best for the report to go to the new board of commissioners, which will decide whether the project goes forward.Newly-elected commissioners Raymond Coltrain and Carl Ford will join the board on Dec. 1, replacing Jim Sides and Chamberlain.
Items scheduled for the Monday agenda include:
– Recognition of retiring Register of Deeds Bobbie Earnhardt.
– Consider approval of a temporary use permit for a remediation trailer on Bringle Ferry Road on property owned b the Hazel Holder Palmer Estate.
Commissioners visited the site earlier this month to check out concerns of a neighbor related to noise and odor.
– Consider approval of a contract for installation of a waterline to RDH Tire and Retread Company.
Ronny Turner Construction Co. is the low bidder at $393,042.
– Consider approval of budget amendments.
