Education – Students employed at Chick-fil-A win $1,000 scholarships

Two student employees at Chick-fil-A’s Towne Creek Commons restaurant have each won a $1,000 Leadership Scholarship from the franchise.
They are Jeffrey Richardson of Salisbury and Travis Thompson of Greensboro.
Richardson is studying medicine at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Thompson is studying social work at Livingstone College.
Hurley Good Citizens
Hurley Elementary School recently recognized the following students as September Good Citizens:
Kindergarten: Meredith Burton, Allison Ennis, Piper Muire, Fernanda Torres, Elijah Webb.
First grade: Adamary Baltazar, Madelyn Cason, Rafael Farfan, Dora Molina, Zachary Moten, Mia Taggart.
Second grade: Roarke Burton, Amanda Hassard, Abe Long, T. J. Smith, Austin Wike.
Third grade: Nasir Fudge, Emily Maxey, Nathan Sparks, Joe Steinman, Brittney Tavira.
Fourth grade: Miguel Aguirre, Alyssa Earls, Brandon Walton.
Fifth grade: Ryan Barbee, Alan Cruz, Malik Ford, Lee Poteat, John Yang.
Equipment donation
The Electrical/Electronics Technology Program at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College has received an equipment donation from Baldor Electric Co. worth more than $8,000.
Baldor markets, designs and manufactures industrial electric motors, power transmission products, drives and generators. The company is based in Fort Smith, Ark.The donation of four softstarters and three inverter drives will be used by RCCC students studying electrical motors and controls. Terry Cremeans, a Baldor product manager, and Bill Whitlow, a North Carolina sales representative with Baldor, recently presented the equipment during a class. Cremeans also offered to return to provide additional training on the equipment.
Hilton Lingle, owner of Lingle Electric Repair Inc. and a long-time Baldor customer, requested and coordinated the donation to RCCC. His son Jonathan, a principal of Lingle Electric and a 2005 RCCC graduate, also attended the presentation.
