Entries are being accepted for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Parade, which will take place Jan. 19 at 11 a.m.
The deadline for registration is Jan. 12.
The parade committee says the parade will be the beginning of a monumental week in American history ó the week of Barack Obama’s presidential inauguration. In that spirit, the committee is waiving entry fees.
“Please plan to have your church, organization, school, business, etc. represented in this grand event,” a press release says.
The parade will include marching bands, drill and step teams, civic and social organizations, churches, clowns, kings and queens, businesses and special attractions.
Lineup will begin at 9 a.m. at Soldier’s Memorial AME Zion Church, 800 N. Church St.
Byron Brown will be this year’s lineup director. He can be contacted at 704-433-9145.
Pete Kennedy, a member of the Salisbury City Council, has worked to coordinate the parade with the city.
Entry forms can be picked up and returned at Brown’s Barber Shop, 404 S. Craige St., or Terri Stevenson’s office at 629 W. Monroe St.
For more information, call Stevenson at 704-216-6060, Sherry Hawthorne at 704-267-8408 or Brian Miller at 704-754-1863, or e-mail mlkprdcommittee@gmail.com.
