The Fort Bragg unit of the U.S. Army Cadet Corps will interview prospective cadets Dec. 3 and host an orientation Dec. 6 at Fort Bragg.
Cadets are generally 12-17 years old, but exceptional 11-year-olds who are in the sixth grade may also apply, a press release said.
“Cadet applicants must be crime free, drug free and physically fit,” the press release said. “We are not a juvenile delinquency program, but rather a ‘Good deal for good kids!’ ”
At Fort Bragg, cadets train monthly, usually one weekend. Cadets wear specially modified Army uniforms and can participate in a number of advanced training programs, including ground survival and search and rescue. After enrolling, program candidates attend three weekends of challenging military training to earn the title Army Cadet.
The program is managed by adult volunteers “dedicated to instilling the core values of honor, courage and commitment,” the press release said. Volunteers, with or without military experience, are needed to help the program grow. Interested adults are encouraged to attend sessions at Fort Bragg Dec. 3 and 6.
Prospective cadets must make an appointment for an interview no later than 9 p.m. on Dec. 1. Only 50 will be interviewed. To make an appointment or get more information, call Staff Sgt. Hercules Shannon at 704-798-2032 or 704-637-9004 or e-mail him at dragon7650@gmail.com.
