kannap 4 arrested in home invastions, 1 suspect still free

KANNAPOLIS ó Four young men wanted for kicking in the doors of three apartments in the Royal Oak Gardens Apartments early Wednesday morning walked into the lobby of the Kannapolis Police Station that evening and surrendered.
Investigators are still looking for one other suspect, Adrian Antoine Patterson, 32, who has previously lived at 1631 Oakcrest Drive and 908 S. Juniper St., Kannapolis, Sgt. Ken Jackson said Thursday afternoon.
The men surrendered to police about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
According to charges, one of the men was armed with a gun during the home invasions.
Police say the men were looking for a person whom investigators don’t want to identify. Once they knocked in the door of each apartment, they realized that person wasn’t there and left.
One person in the apartments, Sherry Carr, 45, was slightly injured.
The three home invasions occurred around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. People in the three apartments were either relatives or friends, police said.
Arrested Wednesday evening were
– Deangelo Collins, 24, 563 S. Little Texas Road.
– Deshuntae Barnette, 26, 814 Fisher St.
– Roddarius Hopper, 21, 2403 Saguaro Lane.
– Austin Collins, 20, 924 Forestpark Drive.
All four were charged with three counts of first-degree burglary and placed in the Cabarrus County Jail under $100,000 bond.
Deangelo Collins also faces charges assault by pointing a gun and assault on a female.
According to the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office Web site, Barnette, Hopper and Patterson have extensive criminal records.
The break-ins began about 2:20 a.m., first at 1732 Clemson Court, then at 1726 Furman Court and, finally, at 1717 Furman Court.
According to police records, Ericka Cathcart, 23, Mecca Barber, 17, and Shaneka Cathcart, 21, were staying in the first apartment.
The men confronted Tiesha Pharr, 21, and Troy Stewart, 25, in the second apartment and Sherry Carr, 45, in the third.
