KANNAPOLIS ó Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina will celebrate the grand opening of its new Kannapolis retail store Wednesday at 2303 Coldwater Ridge Drive.
Goodwill’s modern thrift store boasts 12,000 square feet and offers a large inventory of clothing, furniture, shoes, toys and housewares and a covered donation drive-thru. Customers are invited to celebrate the event and browse the aisles of newly displayed items for sale.
The store, located across from Lowes Home Improvement on Dale Earnhardt Boulevard, is the second Goodwill store in Kannapolis. The company has operated a store at 1806 South Cannon Boulevard since 1990.
“We are very excited to be opening our second store in Kannapolis,” said John Cunningham, VP of Retail Operations for Goodwill. “The community has been very supportive of Goodwill through their donations and patronage of our store on Cannon Boulevard. The opening of the new store will enable us to further support the expansion of our workforce development services.”
The sale of donated goods in Goodwill’s retail stores underwrites programs that help people gain marketable skills, find jobs and become more self-sufficient. Goodwill served more than 22,000 people in its programs in 2007.
Sculptor Dr. Thomas Clark, an internationally renowned artist known for his whimsical gnomes and woodspirits, is scheduled to attend the opening from 11 a.m. to noon to autograph his art pieces which will be for sale at the new store.
The Kannapolis Goodwill store will employ 12-15 people and will be open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.
