Katelyn Shuping received the Girl Scout Silver Award on Jan. 6. This is the highest award for a Cadette Girl Scout.
Shuping has been in Girl Scouts for seven years and a member of Troop 527 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for the past year.
The award was presented by Jody McManus, troop leader, and Vanessa Hovis, assistant leader.
Shuping is a freshman at East Rowan High School and the daughter of Kim and Jody Shuping of Granite Quarry. Her project was to repair and improve the nature trail at Granite Quarry Elementary School. The trail is now being used by the science classes.
