Staff report
Wayne Ford, a Libertarian candidate for the 77th N.C. House District, has withdrawn from the race.
Ford was one of three people seeking the position. The others are incumbent Democrat Lorene Coates and Republican challenger Ada Fisher.
Ford, of Salisbury, asked the Rowan County Board of Elections on Aug. 6 to remove his name from the ballot.
Elections Director Nancy Evans said the Libertarian Party does have the option to put another candidate on the ballot.
Evans said an e-mail from the State Board of Elections did not specify a deadline for the party to name a replacement.
