Meals on Wheels of Rowan has received a $1,700 grant to go toward its meal subsidy program to help homebound residents who cannot pay the full or subsidized cost of meals.
The grant was among 54 grants totalling $501,950 awarded by BJ’s Charitable Foundation to nonprofit organizations in the communities BJ’s Wholesale Clubs serve.
Cabarrus Meals on Wheels in Concord received a $5,000 grant for its home-delivered program providing meals to homebound residents five days a week.
Organizations were selected based on their support of the foundation’s mission of promoting the safety, security and well-being of children and families; supporting education and health programs; providing community service opportunities; and aiding in hunger and disaster relief.
“BJ’s Charitable Foundation recognizes that now more than ever nonprofits are in great need due to these tough economic times,” Paul Bass, president of BJ’s Charitable Foundation, said in a press release. “As a result, we have increased our support to specifically help more food banks and more homeless shelters.
“We are committed to creating a positive, long-lasting impact for children and families in every community BJ’s serves.”
