Military News:Jay Flynn retires

Jay FlynnICI(SW/AW) Jon Jay Flynn has retired after 20 years in the Navy.
He entered the Navy in November 1988, after his graduation from West Rowan High School. While in the Navy, he served on the USS Mobile Bay CG-53, USS Saratoga CV-60 during Operation Desert Storm as team leader of the Optical Landing Systems Maintenance crew.
He also served on the USS John C. Stennis and the USS George Washington. While on the USS George Washington he worked as ship’s security armory supervisor and as Visual Landing Aids leading petty officer.
During his final six month deployment in 2004, he was designated as QA inspector for all VLA equipment.
After five Mediterranean cruises, he went to NAS Norfolk at SIMA. Then he went to the Center for Naval Leadership and served as Master Training Specialist until his retirement.
ICI Flynn received the Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation and the Good Conduct Award.
Flynn is the son of Louie and Kay Flynn of Salisbury.
He is married to Brenda Tuttle Flynn and they have three sons: Jordan, Joshua and Jacob. The Flynns will be making their home in Newport News, Va.
