Miller’s Ferry Fire Department has received a federal grant for more than $44,000.
U.S. Rep. Howard Coble, whose 6th District includes part of Rowan County, announced the grant for Miller’s Ferry as well as fire departments in other counties, including Alamance, Guilford and Randolph.
The grant will come from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to purchase new turnout gear and other equipment for firefighters.
Miller’s Ferry will receive $44,247.
The grant can be used to purchase such needed items as helmets, boots, breathing devices and communications equipment.
“All of our first responders deserve a note of thanks from all of us who are served by them,” Coble said in a press release. “I am sure that each of these fine organizations is thankful that they have been approved for this federal aid.”
Earlier this year, Miller’s Ferry received a grant for $16,169 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. That grant was aimed at aiding in training, conducting first responder health and safety programs and buying equipment for response vehicles.
In the latest announcement by Coble, fire departments scattered across the 6th District also received federal loans ranging from $68,000 to $208,000 for equipment purchases.
