HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) ó For Lakisha Smith, it was more critical to vote for Obama than to become a mama.
The 27-year-old Bluffton woman went into labor late Monday, but she and her husband Aaron decided to vote before going to the hospital.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports the couple, voting for the first time, lined up before the polls opened at 7 a.m.
Smith checked into Beaufort Memorial Hospital about 9 a.m. and gave birth to a girl, Keyonna Marie Smith, about 90 minutes later.
Smith says it was historic to vote for Barack Obama, who will be the nationís first black president. She says she made a little history herself giving birth on Election Day.
