ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) – Snow is falling in western North Carolina where one county closed school and 10 others called for two-hour delays in opening.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that Graham County called off school Monday. Other counties in the western mountains are on a delayed start.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Swain, Graham, Jackson, Macon and Haywood counties until noon. Forecasters said three to six inches of snow could accumulate.
The forecast also calls for snow showers to continue through the day in the southern Appalachians and it warns that travel could be difficult in the areas.
