South Rowan Chorus to present 'The Sounds of Christmas' Monday

The South Rowan Chorus will present its Christmas concert, “The Sounds of Christmas,” Monday at 7 p.m. in the South auditorium.
There will be seven performing ensembles featured: Honors Chorus, Varsity Singers, Chorus 1 and 2, SATB Show Choir, SSA Show Choir, Men’s Chorus and Women’s Ensemble.
To begin the concert, Honors Chorus students will present a Handbell prelude, “Joy to the World,” followed by “Carol of the Bells.”
The combined choruses will join for a Christmas carol medley, “The Twelve Songs of Christmas”.
At the end of the concert, all choruses will join in a candlelighting finale singing “Stille Nacht” (Silent Night) and “The Lord Bless You and Keep You.”
Each class will perform several individual selections. Chorus 1 will present “Where Are you Christmas?”, “One Small Child” and the gospel selection “There’s a Baby Born This Night. ”
Chorus 2 will sing “Christmastime,” “Christmas Festival” and “Do You hear What I Hear?”
The women’s ensemble will sing ‘The First Noel” set to Pachelbel’s “Canon.”
There are two extra-curricular show choirs at South.
The SATB choir will perform the novelty number, “The Twelve Groovy Days of Christmas.”
The women’s SSA Show Choir will sing “Variations on Fa-la-la.”
Varsity Men will sing an acappella arrangement of “O Holy Night,” and the women will sing a vocal jazz arrangement of “Mister Santa.”
Concluding the concert will be the Varsity Singers’ selections of “Mary Did You Know,” “Chestnuts Roasting,” “Tiny Little Baby Born in Bethlehem” and John Rutter’s “Candlelight Carol,” sung by candlelight.
