With less than a month to go in its campign, the Rowan County United Way has raised about 46 percent of its goal of nearly $2 million, the agency reported Wednesday.
So far, the campaign, which began Sept. 5, has raised $915,007.26, said Campaign Director Jackie Harris.
“I think we’re doing well, but we’re halfway through the campaign,” Harris said.
The campaign will end Nov. 5.
Harris said the sluggish economy might be impacting people’s willingness to donate.
“I think there’s a lot of uncertainty with people,” she said.
But Harris said an unstable economy means agencies need the money more than ever. The money raised will go to 16 agencies, including the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, YMCA, Communities in Schools and the Salvation Army.
“When times are bad, then needs are the greatest,” Harris said.
“There’s no gift too small,” she added.
