EAST SPENCER ó Police are saying little about a Friday night shooting that led to a man’s death.
Ahmad Bognuda, 30, was pronounced dead at Rowan Regional Medical Center not long after the 11:14 p.m. shooting.
According to police, he was shot in the 300 block of Geroid Street, which intersects Long Street not far from East Spencer’s municipal building.
East Spencer Police Chief Ronald Hines said Saturday a search continues for the shooter, though he said he couldn’t release a description of the person involved. He said he didn’t know the caliber of the gun that killed Bognuda, and said he couldn’t say for sure if the bullet was fired from a handgun or rifle.
Hines refused to release any details about what might have led to the shooting, saying an investigation was in its infancy.
Hines said officers from the State Bureau of Investigation and Rowan County Sheriff’s Office have been called to assist with the investigation.
The 300 block of Geroid Street is mostly wooded. There are apartments at the end of the block.
A man who was walking the block Saturday evening said he heard at least three shots late Friday, but said he knew little else about the incident.
He said Bognuda was shot behind the apartments. He said he didn’t know what prompted the shooting.
