The J.F. Hurley Family YMCA wants you to discover the water. The aquatics department is offering free water fitness classes Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. For more information, call the YMCA at 704/636-0111.
The Water Fitness Kick-Off will feature six different half-hour classes including:
– Arthritis/gentle beginner
– Pre- and post-natal
– Multiple sclerosis
– Deep water with flotation
– High intensity
– Low/moderate intensity
All water classes are free and open to the public. Drawings for door prizes will accompany each class. Come early to register.
Several factors make pool workouts a good alternative. When you’re in the water, there’s less weight to support. This allows a more intense workout without the usual wear and tear of land workouts. Plus, because water is more resistant than air, a 30-minute pool workout is similar to a longer-lasting workout on land.
Water workouts:
– Strengthen and tone muscles
– Are easy on joints and bones
– Improve heart and lungs
– And increases flexibility and balance.
YMCA safety features
– Walk-in pool entry
– Poolside chair lifts
– Trained life guards
– Certified water exercise instructors
– And certified pre/post-natal instructor.
