SAN DIEGO — Tim Lincecum struck out 13 and held the San Diego Padres to one run and three hits in seven innings to lead the San Francisco Giants to an 8-4 win Wednesday night.
Lincecum (1-1) left with an 8-1 lead after seven. The Freak struck out every San Diego regular except Nick Hundley, who hit a solo homer in the third, his first.
The Giants chased Tim Stauffer (0-1) in the fifth, two batters after he allowed Aubrey Huff’s RBI double to left-center. Stauffer allowed four runs and eight hits in 4 2-3 innings, walked two and struck out one.
Marlins 7, Nationals 4
MIAMI — John Buck hit a bases-loaded triple and Florida came from behind to win for the second night in a row, this time erasing a four-run deficit.
Buck, who hit a grand slam on opening day, missed another by inches in the fifth and settled for a triple that tied the game. Chris Coghlan had three doubles and a single and scored three times for the Marlins, and Omar Infante put them ahead to stay with an RBI single in the sixth.
Phillies 10, Mets 7
PHILADELPHIA — Ryan Howard tied a career high with four hits and fell a triple short of the cycle, Ben Francisco also homered and the Phillies beat the Mets after wasting a 7-0 lead.
Placido Polanco had three hits and three RBIs, including a go-ahead single in the fifth, helping the four-time NL East champions overcome a rough start by Joe Blanton to improve to 4-1.
Angel Pagan hit a two-run homer for the Mets, who got a second straight poor outing from Mike Pelfrey. Pelfrey lasted just two-plus innings, allowing seven runs — six earned — and eight hits.
Rockies 7, Dodgers 5
DENVER — Todd Helton and Troy Tulowitzki homered in leading Colorado past Los Angeles for a two-game sweep.
Jason Hammel (1-0) was the beneficiary of the pop in the middle of Colorado’s lineup, picking up the win despite allowing two home runs in five innings and falling behind 4-2 in the third.
Diamondbacks 6, Cubs 4
CHICAGO — Chris Young drove in two runs, scored twice and made a pair of nice catches in center field for Arizona. Arizona ended its eight-game losing streak against the Cubs.
Armando Galarraga (1-0) won in his first career NL start, giving up five hits and four runs in 7 1-3 innings. J.J. Putz pitched a perfect ninth for his second save.
Pirates 3, Cardinals 1
ST. LOUIS — Kevin Correia and two relievers combined to slow St. Louis, Neil Walker hit his second home run and the surprising Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cardinals.
The Pirates won their second road series of the season, now having taken two of three from St. Louis and the Chicago Cubs. Last year, Pittsburgh was a majors-worst 17-64 on the road on the way to a 57-105 record overall.
Reds 12, Astros 4
CINCINNATI — Brandon Phillips and Paul Janish had three hits apiece, and the Reds overcame a four-run deficit and remained the NL’s only unbeaten team.
The Reds are 5-0 for the first time since 1990, when they won their last World Series championship.
Edinson Volquez (1-0) overcame another lousy beginning.
The Astros committed a season-high five errors that helped the Reds catch up and pull away.
Nelson Figueroa (0-1) had one of the five errors that undercut the fast start. The Reds scored five runs in the third, aided by back-to-back errors, and four more in the sixth.
Brewers 5, Braves 4
MILWAUKEE — Prince Fielder drove in his first three runs this season and scored two more to lead the Brewers.
Fielder had been hitless in 11 at-bats when he singled in two runs with the bases loaded in the first against Mike Minor (0-1).
Marco Estrada (1-0) earned his first major league victory. He was called up from the minors earlier in the day to fill in while Zack Greinke is on the disabled list.
