John Skyler Whitfield Graduation
Mr. John Skyler Whitfield graduated during the 122nd commencement exercises at Woodberry Forest School May 28, 2011.
Woodberry Forest School is a highly selective, independent boarding school in Madison County, Va., for 400 boys in grades 9-12 from 28 states, the District of Columbia, and 17 other countries. Founded in 1889, it emphasizes an education based on intellectual thoroughness, moral integrity and good sportsmanship.
Mr. Whitfield was Captain of the Woodberry Forest Skeet Team and won the TOP GUN Award for having the highest shooting average for the season.
Mr. Whitfield will attend Hampden-Sydney College, where he was awarded one of Hampden-Sydney’s top achievement awards, The President’s Award, for his academic achievements and demonstration of leadership.
Hampden-Sydney College is located in Prince Edward County, Va., and enrolls 1,106 students from 30 states and several foreign countries and emphasizes a rigorous and traditional liberal arts curriculum. Hampden-Sydney College is distinguished as one of the oldest colleges in America, founded in 1775. Notable alumni include many congressmen, ambassadors, governors and more than 150 state representatives.
John is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff B. Whitfield of Wilmington and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Whitfield of Salisbury and Mr. and Mrs. James Lloyd Campbell, also of Salisbury.
