ROCKWELL — A 15-year-old is accused of hitting a Rockwell man in the face with a baseball bat Tuesday evening.
A Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report said 33-year-old Derrick Yates was assaulted by the teenager after an argument began between Yates and other juveniles at a Rockwell home.
Yates was at 1085 Percy Lane fixing a water heater for the home owners, the report said, when the verbal altercation started.
Yates claimed that the 15-year-old’s mother was also involved in the incident, but no charges were filed.
Deputies completed a juvenile referral report for juvenile services and the case remains under investigation.
Yates was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center after calling authorities after the incident.
Deputies said the teen hit Yates in the forehead twice with the bat. A large gash on the man’s head was treated. He was later released.
