CHARLOTTE (AP) — A lawsuit says a North Carolina woman who filed a complaint against her abusive husband was sexually harassed and stalked by the sheriff’s deputy who was supposed to have helped her
Suzanne Wick filed a domestic violence complaint against her husband in 2009. The lawsuit says the complaint landed on the desk of Richard Jenkins III, who headed the Iredell County sheriff’s office’s domestic violence unit.
The lawsuit says Jenkins began sexually harassing and stalking Wick. She says she was afraid to report anything because it could jeopardize the case against her husband, who was later convicted on domestic violence charges. Wick later told her attorney, and Jenkins was eventually demoted.
