CLEVELAND — Three Rowan County Sheriff’s deputies were surprised to find the man they were looking for hiding in an air conditioning unit.
When they arrived at a Chenault Road home at 6:30 p.m. Friday, the owner of the residence gave the deputies permission to search the home.
“They were looking in the laundry room and saw fingers behind the grill of the air conditioning return,” Capt. John Sifford said. “They opened the grill and removed the filter to find Randy Yates Jr. hiding.”
Sifford said Yates told the deputies he was waiting for his father to pick him up and decided to hide because he didn’t want to go to jail.
The deputies were looking for Yates due to failure to appear in court for charges of driving while license revoked, driving without registration, operating a vehicle with no insurance and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods.
Yates, 26, of Chenault Road, has been charged with resisting arrest. He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $1,000 bond.
Yates also received a $400 bond for failing to appear in court.
