SALISBURY — Police found a man passed out behind the wheel of his Honda at the intersection of Jake Alexander and Statesville boulevards Saturday morning.
According to the arrest report, the Honda was still in gear when authorities arrived on the scene about 9:45 a.m.
Frederick Smith, of Needmore Road, told officers he had taken medication earlier that morning because he was having a “panic attack,” the report said. He was heading home when a passerby found him.
The 22-year-old told officers he had alcohol the night before, but said he hadn’t had anything earlier that morning. Officers noted an odor of alcohol on the man’s breath.
He was taken to the hospital and a blood sample was taken for analysis.
Smith was charged on citation with driving while impaired.
