SALISBURY — A resident on Locke Street called police Tuesday morning after the glass in a back door shattered.
Officers chased two suspects from the home and arrested one after a two-block sprint about 4 a.m. The second suspect was not caught.
Doris Stafford, 24, was arrested when additional police units cornered her on Grace Street.
According to a Salisbury Police report, Stafford told officers she was “simply running to the store to get a pack of cigarettes.”
The report said Stafford was “very uncooperative” during the arrest.
Police said she refused to have her fingerprints and photograph taken, kicked a patrol car and refused to stay in her seat while being transported to the police department.
Authorities found a butter knife with a bent end in Stafford’s possession, the report said.
She was charged with felony first-degree burglary; felony preparation to commit burglary; and misdemeanor resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer.
Stafford was in jail Wednesday morning under a $20,000 bond.
Anyone with information about the second suspect is asked to contact the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
