Another code orange air day, with highs in the 90s

The area is again under a code orange air quality action day.
Ground levels of ozone will create air that is unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, people with heart and lung issues and those who work outside.
Locally, the expected high is 93, but many areas are expected to be in the upper 90s or near 100 degrees today, with a heat index, meaning the feel of the temperature, several degrees higher.
Right now in Granite Quarry, it is 82.9 degrees, according to the Salisbury Post’s Weather Underground, but it feels like 88 degrees.
It’s 81.7 degrees in Salisbury, but feels like 85 degrees; and in China Grove, it’s 78.4, but feels like 80 degrees.
There’s a 40 percent chance of showers today, some of which could pack a punch of hail and high winds.
A violent thunderstorm left two people dead in Great Smoky Mountains National Park Thursday. One man was on a motorcycle when the storm hit, and a woman was struck by a falling tree.
The storm hit near the Tennessee-North Carolina border and affected areas ared Cades Cove and the Abrams Creek section of the park.
Several other people were injured.
No watches or warnings have been issued today.
