FAITH — Authorities said a 3-year-old who was airlifted to a Winston-Salem hospital Sunday night was injured when she fell out of a family van near the home on Deck Lane.
The girl’s mother, Patricia Andrews, told deputies both of her children “were placed and secured in the car seats,” a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report said, shortly before the incident.
But when Andrews “briefly walked away” from the van, she heard the children screaming, the report said.
Andrews told officers she saw the van rolling backwards into a tree near a mobile home.
Caitlyn, the child, was “thrown out and was lying near the van,” the report said.
She was transported about a half of a mile to a field on Rainey Road and was then airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
A spokeswoman for the hospital said the child was not listed in the hospital’s registry Monday morning.
Emergency crews said Sunday night the toddler had some abrasions across her stomach.
The Sheriff’s Office report said she had an injury to her arm, some abrasions on her arm and “could have some internal injuries.”
Capt. John Sifford said the incident is still under investigation.
