CHINA GROVE — Authorities say a Gold Hill woman stole a check from her mother and used it to pay a China Grove doctor’s office.
Codie Lea Cline, 31, of 2285 Liberty Road in Gold Hill, was arrested Wednesday and remained in the Rowan County Detention Center on Friday under a $10,000 bond.
Her mother, China Grove resident Wanda Cline, reported to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office on June 8 that a check had been stolen from her checkbook.
According to subsequent reports, Wanda Cline later received a notice from her bank that a check had come back because there weren’t enough funds to clear it. It was made out to Main Street Family Practice, where she said she had never been.
She told authorities her daughter had come over to her house multiple times in the same week that the check was stolen.
After further investigation, the sheriff’s office charged Codie Cline with misdemeanor larceny, and the China Grove Police Department added charges of obtaining property by false pretense and uttering a forged instrument.
Codie Cline has a criminal record dating back to 2006, including convictions on felony charges of forgery and uttering, credit card theft and identity fraud/theft.
