SALISBURY — Rowan County Sheriff’s deputies said a 66-year-old man molested a 4-year-old child, the child’s mother and the child’s aunt in a series of incidents dating back to the early 1990s.
Officers arrested Richard Lewis Waynick, of St. Lukes Church Road, at his home Tuesday morning. He was charged with two counts of felony indecent liberties with children, two counts of felony first-degree sex offense and two additional counts of felony sex offense.
Waynick remained in jail Tuesday under a $500,000 bond.
Detectives were notified of the sexual assault allegations on July 12 after they were contacted by the Department of Social Services.
Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Capt. John Sifford said Investigator Clint Mauldin began looking into accusations that the 4-year-old had been molested.
But after speaking with the child’s mother and aunt, Mauldin learned they too had been victimized, Sifford said.
“After several interviews, he was able to come to the conclusion that these charges were justified,” Sifford said.
An arrest report said the offenses involving the 4-year-old happened between August 2009 and July 12, 2012.
The child’s mother was molested in incidences between August 2008 and August 2009, the report said.
The child’s aunt was molested between January 1991 and January 1992, the report said.
Investigators believe the events occurred in eastern Rowan County.
