SALISBURY — A 38-year-old woman was charged with an additional felony Friday night after authorities said she spit on a detention center officer.
Carol Anne Patterson was in jail on charges of failing to appear and defrauding an innkeeper or campground owner when the incident occurred, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were initially having problems with the prisoner in the female dorm, an arrest report said, but when officer R.A. Hadley approached the woman she spit on his shoes and pants.
Patterson was placed into a padded cell for observation, deputies said, but the woman continued to spit on the floor and hit the door.
The report said officers took her to the Magistrate’s Office when she calmed down and charged her with felony malicious conduct by a prisoner.
She remained in jail today under a $2,000 bond.
