SALISBURY — Salisbury Police charged a man Thursday who was accused of hiding from officers in the bushes of a residential area after he spent two days at the hospital.
Authorities said Richard Corbett Hattaway, 53, of South Main Street, damaged mailboxes and the front lawn of a home with his vehicle near the intersection of Canteberry Drive and Old Mocksville Road Tuesday afternoon.
Police said Hattaway then tried to run from officers, but was spotted ducked behind a set of bushes, with the help of a nearby electrician, authorities said.
Hattaway was charged with misdemeanor driving while license revoked, misdemeanor hit and run property damage and driving while impaired.
If convicted, it would be Hattaway’s sixth DWI conviction since 1998. He was convicted of DWI on July 10.
The 53-year-old was released after posting a $7,500 bond.
He is scheduled to be in court on Sept. 13.
